Born in 1956, Elena Korka graduated from the University of La Verne, California, U.S.A., in 1989. She then completed a PhD at the University of Athens in 2009 on “The Reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures within the Framework of the New International Practice of Returning Cultural Goods”. Elena Korka held different responsibilities within the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism: Directorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, Directorate for Documentation & Protection of Cultural Goods, Ephorate of Antiquaries and Private Archaeological Collections. She has been appointed General Director of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage in 2015. Elena Korka has also led several archaeological excavations and studies. She is a member of the Greek National Committee for UNESCO, ICOM, ICCROM, ICOMOS, EAC, etc.
