Director General of Fine Arts, Román Fernández-Baca holds a Doctorate in Architecture from University of Seville. He started his career as architect of the Superior Body of the Andalucía Government.  From 1990 to 2018 he has been Director of the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage (IAPH). During this time, the IAPH has become a specialized center of documentation and conservation of cultural heritage due to its multidisciplinary actions that pays special attention to the emerging patrimonies. Roman Fernández-Baca is consultant of the UNESCO World Heritage Center, having been responsible for the drafting of the Feasibility Report of the Regional Center on Cultural Heritage of UNESCO in Rio de Janeiro. He is the European Coordinator of Science and Technology for the program of scientific cooperation in heritage in the space ALCUE (EU, Latin America and the Caribbean), member of the National Council of Iberian DOCOMOMO, member of the Patronages of Alhambra and Generalife, of the Real Alcazar of Sevilla, academic of the Academy of San Telmo (Málaga) and the Academy of Noble Arts of Antequera (Málaga) and member of the Partal Academy of professionals for monumental restoration in Spain.
