EHHF EXHIBITION
Destroying heritage:
A conflict strategy

Brussels, 17.06 – 31.08

The 18th edition of the Forum, “Heritage in emergencies”, will take place from 4-6 December 2024 in Kraków, hosted by the Polish National Heritage Institute. The annual meeting will provide the opportunity to discuss the challenges posed by man-made and natural emergency situations and foster meaningful discussions on how to strengthen the resilience of cultural heritage in current challenging times, reinforcing the importance of cooperation, information exchange, and sharing best practices among national heritage bodies.

Attendance by invitation only.

The 17th EHHF Annual Meeting was held in Sevilla, Spain, on 27-29 September 2023. It was organised by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the EHHF Permanent Secretariat. The theme of this edition was “Heritage: A Living Being“. All conference content is available in the Annual Meetings section.

The European Heritage Heads Forum (EHHF) is an informal, professional and expert network for national heritage heads (built heritage, landscapes and archaeology) of the countries of the European Union, the European Economic Area and the member states of the Council of Europe. It provides a forum for information and experience exchange about the management of the historic environment in the 21st century.

The Heads are mostly the general directors of the department, agency or institute in charge of the conservation and the protection of cultural heritage, within the national relevant ministries. Since 2006, the members of the EHHF gather once a year, each time in a different country. Attendance is by invitation only.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
The first European Heritage Summit was organised in London from April 26 to 28, 2006 by Dr Simon Thurley, former Chief Executive of English Heritage. The mission of the summit was to bring together for the first time those responsible for Europe's cultural heritage, to create an opportunity to exchange experiences in heritage management and to initiate joint action. The first summit brought together 23 European countries, who agreed in the summit's final declaration to continue to meet annually in the form of a European Heritage Heads Forum. Each year, future host countries are chosen by mutual agreement at the annual meeting, so that the tradition can continue.
