Troika

Current Steering Committee

The European Heritage Heads Forum is an informal professional and expert network for national heritage heads (built heritage, landscapes and archaeology) of the European Union and European Economic Area that provides a forum for information and experience exchange about the management of the historic environment in the 21st century. Since 2006, the members of the EHHF meet annually to highlight their shared interest in the Cultural Heritage of Europe. The steering committee of the EHHF is usually referred to as the Troika. It is composed of the Head (or Heads, where authorities are decentralised) of the hosting country for this year’s annual meeting, the Head of the country who hosted it last year, and the Head of the country who will host it next year. Troika meetings are chaired by the host of this year’s annual meeting and assisted by the EHHF administrative secretary.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
The first European Heritage Summit was organised in London from April 26 to 28, 2006 by Dr Simon Thurley, former Chief Executive of English Heritage. The mission of the summit was to bring together for the first time those responsible for Europe's cultural heritage, to create an opportunity to exchange experiences in heritage management and to initiate joint action. The first summit brought together 23 European countries, who agreed in the summit's final declaration to continue to meet annually in the form of a European Heritage Heads Forum. Each year, future host countries are chosen by mutual agreement at the annual meeting, so that the tradition can continue.
