The NEMO European Museum Conference 2023

Lahti, Finland

The NEMO European Museum Conference 2023 “and… ACTION! Museums in the climate crisis” will take place from 19-21 November in Lahti, Finland. Join 200+ museum colleagues from all over Europe to explore how museums can take action for the climate and a sustainable future.

As the sector stands at the brink of change, NEMO wants to inspire and offer guidance on how museums can be part of the solution and identify where they can contribute to climate action and sustainability. At the conference, we will draw on learnings from NEMO’s recent report to explore sustainability strategies, risk management as preventive measures and how to transform museums into futureproof and sustainable organisations.

Join the NEMO European Museum Conference 2023 for inspirational keynote speeches, enlightening panel discussions and engaging workshops. In Lahti, the European Green Capital (2021), you can expect several occasions for networking with European colleagues, inspiring museum visits and opportunities to explore the local nature and culture. Let’s work together to build strong alliances to find collective strength to contribute to global action for climate.

Be part of shaping the NEMO European Museum Conference: and… ACTION! Museums in the climate crisis by submitting an innovative and forward-thinking proposal for the session Museum Slam on Stories of Action. Proposals are accepted until 15 August 2023.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
The first European Heritage Summit was organised in London from April 26 to 28, 2006 by Dr Simon Thurley, former Chief Executive of English Heritage. The mission of the summit was to bring together for the first time those responsible for Europe's cultural heritage, to create an opportunity to exchange experiences in heritage management and to initiate joint action. The first summit brought together 23 European countries, who agreed in the summit's final declaration to continue to meet annually in the form of a European Heritage Heads Forum. Each year, future host countries are chosen by mutual agreement at the annual meeting, so that the tradition can continue.
