Dubravka Dukanovic is Director General of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Serbia.

Dr. Dubravka Đukanović is a distinguished full professor at the Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad (Conservation and Restoration). Next to a prolific and enduring professional career in academia she has been principled practitioner for more than 30 years and the director of the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Serbia since January 2021. With expertise spanning multiple disciplines, she has contributed significantly to her field through numerous published papers, research articles, and conference presentations, as well as numerous architectural projects, mostly in the field of conservation and restoration. She was a key-expert in several international projects.

Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Đukanović has authored two critically acclaimed books – Serbian Orthodox Churches of the XVIII and XIX Centuries in Bačka (2009) and Architecture of Roman Catholic Churches in Vojvodina from 1699 to 1939 (2015), both of which have received prestigious awards for their contributions to scientific research. Next to the Annual Ranko Radović Award for 2010 for the first book and the annual award by Association of Hungarian Cultural Institutions of Vojvodina for the second one published in Hungarian / English languages by the Hungarian government in 2019, she earned two Novi Sad Salon of Architecture Awards (2010 and 2020), UPIDIV Autumn Salon Award (2020) and Medal of Culture for 2020, as well as two Awards for Public Spatial Planning at National Architectural Open Competitions (2016 and 2018). Her dedication to advancing knowledge, its application in practice and pushing the boundaries of their field has earned her respect and admiration from peers, colleagues, and students alike.

In addition to her scholarly achievements Dr. Đukanović is an active member of several professional societies and organizations – Matica srpska’s Fine Arts Board; National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO and a president of the National Commission’s Committee for Culture; National Committee of ICOMOS; Member of the Committee for the development of the Historic City of Sremski Karlovci; Member of the National Architectural Strategy’s authors team; Engineering Chamber of Serbia – IKS; Women’s Architectural Society – ŽAD), where she collaborates with fellow experts and contributes to the advancement of her field. Her leadership and expertise have made her a sought-after mentor and advisor, inspiring the next generation of scholars to excel in their academic pursuits.

Dr. Dubravka Đukanović’s unwavering commitment to excellence, coupled with her passion for research and teaching, has solidified her reputation as a leading authority in her field.

A little bit of history

A European Heritage Summit was first organized in London on 26–28 April 2006 by Dr. Simon Thurley, former Chief Executive Officer of English Heritage. The mission of the Summit was to gather for the first time the European cultural heritage leaders who had the opportunity to exchange their experience and initiate common actions. It was attended by 23 European states which agreed in the Final Statement to continue to meet annually as a forum of European heritage heads, known as the “European Heritage Heads Forum”. Future hosting countries are chosen by general agreement at the annual meeting.
