Jesús Prieto de Pedro was born in Valladolid, Spain. He has been appointed in 2012 Director General of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, Archives and Libraries within the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. He is also a professor of Administrative Law in the National University of Distance Education (UNED) run by the central government of Spain. He has been chairman and vice rector of the UNED. His investigation has focused on cultural rights and languages from which numerous studies and articles have been published. Among others, it must be noted the monograph, Cultura, Culturas y Constitución, which was awarded in 1989 the "Nicolás Pérez Serrano Prize". Throughout his professional career, Jesús Prieto de Pedro has been a member in hundreds of boards, consulting organisations, and editorial committees, as well as a consultant in many Spanish and international institutions (UNESCO, SEGIB, OEI, CERLALC, OIF, Council of Europe, etc.). He has contributed to the writing of many legal national and international texts, among them, the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (UNESCO, 2005) or the Ibero-American Cultural Letter (Ibero-American Summit, 2006).
